Student Life

A Glimpse into the Island of Kauai:

Housing

Kauai Bible College has been in temporary housing for the past two years. Our Luxury Safari Tents have served our students well. We place four men in a tent, and in our women’s tents there is two or three women. We are also currently working on getting electricity in the women’s tents.

Meal Plan

Kauai Bible College currently serves 18 meals a week. Students are also allowed to store food in plastic containers in their rooms. If you are planning on attending and have any type of food allergy, please contact our administrative office in advance so that we can discuss possible options and arrangements that would suit your health. Please note that meals are not provided during Easter break or Thanksgiving break. Saturday Lunch and Dinner is not served, and Sunday Lunch is not served.

Transportation

Most of our students are not from the island of Kauai. This means that transportation can often be tricky. We do not require that each student own a vehicle, but we strongly encourage each student to consider it. Each student is responsible for their own transportation to classes. This is typically not a challenge, because most of our classes are on right on sight. But when a class is offered off sight, students need to make their own transportation arrangements in advance. Here are a few ways to have a vehical during your stay in Kauai:

Ship a Car Out

It should cost between $900-$1,200 to ship a car out to Kauai. This is obviously an expensive option, but if you love your car you can have it in Kauai for a price.

Buy a Car on the Island

Buying a car in the island is a real possibility. Ironically, older cars on the island can often be found for very cheap ($300-$1000). Students moving back to the mainland and interns are sometimes selling cars before they head back to the mainland. There are also some auto mechanics in the church who are helpful in finding cars. We do ask that all of our students own and operate their cars legally on the island. This means that each student who has a car in Kauai needs to have a valid drivers license and appropriate auto insurance. The state of Hawaii allows you to own and operate a vehicle on the island with an out of state license through its term. In other words, as long as your out of state license does not expire you will be okay. You will not need to get a Hawaii drivers license.

The Kauai Bus

The county of Kauai provides public transportation from town to town. The fare usually runs about $1.50 per ride or a monthly unlimited pass can be purchased for $25. The bus schedule can be found by clicking here.
