Practicum

A practicum is a college course often in a specialized field of study that is designed to give students supervised practical application of a previously studied theory. Practicums are common for education majors.

Our required practicum is as follows:

Practical Christian Service
Course Number: CM199
Course Credits: 2
Course Hours: 8 hours per week

This is a required class for all full-time students living on or off campus. The class requires that the students serve on the school, church property and surrounding community for eight hours a week, doing assigned tasks. The tasks include cleaning, landscaping, construction, kitchen, and other practical tasks to maintain the property.  Students certain abilities and physical disabilities are taken into account when these tasks are assigned at the beginning of the semester.  This class is scheduled around other academic courses so as not to conflict with any other classes.

The class serves two key purposes. First, the manual labor that is done by the student cuts down on the operational cost of the college and in turn affects the cost of tuition. Second, the class teaches the student to be a servant to their community, brothers and sisters in a practical manner.
