Hear what past students had to say about their time at KBC….
-Peter Schmidt, Student: Fall 2014
“My time during KBC was not only a life-changing experience, but it now serves as an integral part of my testimony. I was born and raised a Christian. I went to church. I served in the church. I had Christian friends and a Christ based family life. Some would say I had a perfect childhood. However, it wasn’t until I went to KBC, that one fall, that my life was forever changed. I went to KBC not knowing what to expect, and I was pleasantly surprised. It was not only in Kauai, one of the most beautiful places on the planet, but it was lead by a staff that was so genuine and backed by a church that was so loving. With an environment like that no wonder I was able to learn so much, find myself, and grow in my relationship with God.
On a more personal note, when I was there I went through some hard times, but God used the teaching, the community, and the ‘Ohana to engage me on a deep and profound level. God used everything that came my way, whether it was sitting in a classroom or feeding the homeless, to mold me into becoming the man I am today. One of the biggest things that I learned from KBC was about being open. I learned that to grow and to receive help, especially as the external processor that I am, I needed to be open and honest with other people. More often than not just telling someone what was bothering me helped me process and gave me insight into what was going on, instead letting it wallow in my head or sweeping it under the carpet. Learning how to be transparent and how to accept help from others was one of the biggest things that I needed that helped me learn even more at KBC. My life ever since Kauai has changed for the better. I am still growing and learning, but having a stronger relationship with Jesus, because of KBC, has changed how I deal with all of it, and that is worth it.”

“Attending Kauai Bible College for a year will always be considered a huge experience in my life. It holds an extra special place in my heart. Kauai is a beautiful island. It’s a lush jungle, painted with the deepest of red soils. It is truly a paradise of adventure. The biggest thing I learned attending KBC was how to kill abnormally large bugs with a machete. Okay, but truly I learned how to study my bible and enjoy it. The classes had great depth and truly improved my biblical knowledge kine. I particularly enjoyed studying the book of Acts. I loved how closely the church and the college were connected, I think that’s what made it feel like a family. It was such a blessing to have a Hanai family. Uncle Russell is also a huge part of making it feel like home for all the students. I am so thankful for all the friends I made at KBC; everyone felt like siblings. It’s been awesome to remain in contact with most and even spend time with a few here on the mainland. Eager to visit Kauai and KBC again! Miss you all!”

“The time that I spent at Kauai Bible College were the greatest times I spent in my life. During my time at KBC, I learned things about Christianity and God that will stick with my forever. During my second semester at KBC, I faced a depression that ultimately lead me to rejecting Jesus as my Lord and Savior for a time. It had nothing to do with the college but more to do with personal things. God met me though during one of my darkest days and taught me how hard things happen sometimes to make you stronger. I came out of it a man that has never dealt with a depression like that again. The support from friends there and the staff helping me through that was something that has changed me for the rest of my life. Kauai Bible College is a wonderful place that will always be close to my heart and in my prayers.”

“I’m so thankful I had the opportunity to go to KBC. In the short four months I attended the Bible College, I had such a crazy amount of ups and downs and learning experiences. Personally, I had a lot of discomfort for many different things. It was hard to live in a cabin with five girls and it was hard to share one bathroom and two showers with 20 of them. It was hard to not have a fridge and kitchen to use at my leisure, to not have clean laundry most of the time, to not have a car, to not have air conditioning or a very comfy bed. It was hard to feel lonely at times when I was so far away from close family and friends at home. It was hard to not have everything at my fingertips all the time. However, it was SO worth it. The extremely simple life of KBC made me so thankful for what I do have at home. It made it so easy to love the people I was surrounded by at KBC, it showed me how to compromise and put others well being before my own. It was easy to become accustomed to the simple life of KBC after a while, because I could so strongly feel Jesus’ presence with me through those hard times. It was easy to go on unforgettable adventures with the incredible people I was surrounded by. It was easy to have late night meaningful conversations that sometimes changed your life. The classes we took I learned so much from that I would never have learned anywhere else and the teachers really care about every single person. The experiences at KBC are truly one of a kind. The growth I made at Kaua’i Bible College was so evident to me and even my family when I came back home. It’s a beautiful and worthwhile journey that I wish for everyone to go through!”

“Before going to KBC I really wanted to be in ministry and become a pastor and lead a church one day. However, I was very shocked when I showed up at KBC and I realized that many of the students there just wanted to know God more and weren’t really interested in full time ministry like I was. I also quickly learned that Bible college wasn’t just catered to people who wanted to be in full time ministry, but people who genuinely wanted to grow as a Christian and immerse themselves in the word of God.The thing about taking a semester apart to devote to the Lord is that if you’re willing to listen, He will tell you things. While I was there I didn’t just learn the Bible, but God worked on me by showing me things I struggled with that I didn’t know about like pride, being offensive in my joking, and showing me that I wasn’t nearly ready enough for ministry like I thought I was. But over the two years with help from my KBC friends and staff the Lord started changing those things in me and made me more adequate for my future ministry that I am now in as a youth pastor. My favorite thing about KBC was the internships for the second year students. Instead of just two years of sitting in a classroom learning more and more Bible, students have a chance to actually learn ministry in practical ways and be trained to take what the Bible teaches out into the world. I was a pastoral intern and had chances to intentionally meet with other students, teach some Wednesday night services, lead small groups, and have first class training on pastoral ministry.I believe that anyone with an open heart, who wants to know God more, and grow as a disciple of Christ is ready to attend KBC.”
